British Coins and Medals. Victoria , error halfpenny, 1861, young bust l., rev. Britannia std. r. with shield and trident, F of HALF over P (an inaccurate repair to P of PENNY ) (Peck dies 6 + G; Freeman dies 7 + G; cf. S.3956), obverse with very slight dark patch centrally on Victoria’s head, the right side of the reverse appears pitted – although it isn’t - due to the coin being struck on a flawed die, which has also resulted in the ENN of PENNY being very poorly struck, tiny edge nick at 12 o’clock, otherwise nearly extremely fine, very rare This variety unlisted in both Peck & Freeman. The variety is known with both Freeman obverse 6 and 7. Only approximately 10 - 12 examples currently known (comprising an equal number of both Freeman obverses), this being one of the better examples £400-500
