10 Dollar    (sold for $885.0)

1853-O. NGC graded EF-45. Some moderate marks on both sides, a choice, well struck O-mint issue from this historic decade in American history, a time when the nation was expanding Westward beyond the Mississippi River into far-off (and sometimes dangerous) regions. In 1853, then 18-year-old Sam Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain) was getting his training as a riverboat captain. Likely as not he made port at New Orleans on many occasions about the time this $10 Eagle went into circulation (PCGS # 8612) . Estimated Value $850 - 900. Ex: Heritage Sale April 2006 Lot 3937.
