1733,
8 Reales, 1733-MXF. Philip V (1700-46). NGC EF Details--Salt Water Damage.
KM-103; Cal-type-145#772; Gil-M-8-3a; FC-4b. Large crown. RARE one year type with “MX” mintmark as opposed to the traditional “Mo”. An interesting piece as the shield side die is occasionally found used to strike 1733-F 8 Reales with the traditional “Mo” mintmark. Quite well preserved considering it sat on the sea bed in Florida for more than two centuries. Much original surface remaining (especially in the centers) light to moderate porosity that is slightly heavier at the edge. A VERY RARE and desirable type that is sure to draw the attention of serious collectors.
Pedigree: From the David Gray Collection. Ex: Ponterio & Associates September 3, 1997. Ex: 1733 Fleet.
