贸易美元是美国发行的银元硬币，专门用于东方与中国、韩国和日本的贸易。它重 420 格令，由 90% 的银和 10% 的铜组成，而当时标准美元银元的重量为 412 格令。

1878 年，由于商业罢工，贸易银元的生产正式停止，此后从 1879 年到 1885 年，仅作为硬币的样币进行生产。 1884 年和 1885 年的期刊是秘密出版的，直到 1908 年才为收藏公众所知。

1887 年 2 月，所有未损坏的未偿还贸易美元均可赎回美国财政部，其中约 800 万美元已上缴。
