1802 Draped Bust Dime. . JR-3. PCGS graded AU-58. The diagnostic die crack through CA of AMERICA is very clear, and this is seen on all examples of this die pairing. A light thin scratch from the cheek to the shoulder is mentioned, while elsewhere the surface retains all its original smooth features under attractive toning. The patina covers the range of what is true "antique silver" color, from areas of gold and russet to deeper shades with purple, blue, and steel, some of which is iridescent. Most pleasurably to the eye of the numismatist, we are greeted by nice, convincing design detail for all areas of this important coin with not even the slightest amount of flatness except possibly on a few obverse stars (and, on the reverse, a couple of flat clouds where Liberty's bust opposes this part of the design). Choice rims; the aforementioned die cracks to add interest, and all in exceptional condition given how rare these 1802 Draped Bust Dime are (PCGS # 4472) . Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
