MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1732-MoF. Philip V (1700-46). NGC EF Details--Salt Water Damage.
KM-103; Cal-type-146#774; Gil-M-8-1; FC-1. Small crown, two mouldings atop pillars. Overall good surface quality, sowing only minor surface etching from exposure. As a generalization, coins recovered from the Rosswijk are found with much better surface quality than most shipwreck coins. The majority of the cargo was found still sealed in the original wooden chests. The chests were constructed with iron handles locks and hardware, which in turn oxidized at the boom of the sea floor encapsulating them in a cocoon of rust, preserving their contents. In fact, many of the original chests remained fully intact with the exception of their metal hardware. Toned, attractive and of course quite RARE.
Pedigree: From the David Gray Collection. Purchased from Daniel Frank Sedwick November 2008. Ex: Rooswijk.
