RUSSIA. Ruble, 1741-CNB. Ivan VI (1740-41). NGC EF Details--Scratches.
KM-207.2; Bit-21; Dia-6; Dav-1676. RARE. Emperor Ivan VI Antonovich of Russia was made heir to the Empire of Russia by his Great-Aunt Empress Anna, who wished to exclude all descendants of Peter I from the throne. Elizabeth, daughter of Peter I, staged a coup d'état and ascended as Empress in 1741. She then imprisoned Ivan VI and his family. Ivan VI would linger on for 23 years before a botched escape ended his years of mental anguish. This piece exhibits a few small scratches along the obverse field, but it hardly detracts from this RARE and historically important piece.
