The Holey dollar and dump are the first coins struck in Australia. The centered cut or 'Dump' from the Spanish Dollar (Holey Dollar) was valued at 15 pence, the Dollar had a value of 5 Shillings. The cost of 40,000 Spanish dollars by the Australian government was 4 shillings 9 pence, leaving a profit of 1 shilling sixpence on each Spanish dollar. Very few examples remain in existence today.
