1856 Breen 1-C Rarity-4 NGC graded Proof, Improperly Cleaned. This variety has CENT and parts of the wreath ribbon doubled, clearest on the T in CENT. There are no contact marks or evidence of friction, but it was once dipped and has mostly retoned bluish steel and olive brown with very faded red remaining in protected areas, especially on the obverse. The only mark is a tiny speck of carbon in the center of the cheek. Nicely struck with smooth, moderately reflective fields. Our grade is net Proof-55. Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
