1802, United States. Large Copper "Draped Bust" One Cent Coin. Damaged aXF! Mint Year: 1802 Reference: KM-22. Denomination: One Cent (Draped Bust) Condition: Damaged (scratched and lightly bent), otherwise a nice and authentic about XF for this early issue! "Draped Bust" was the name given to a design of United States coins. It appeared on much of the regular-issue copper and silver United States coinage from 1795-1808. The denominations that featured the Draped Bust design included the half cent. All coins (copper and silver) bore the same obverse. Robert Scot, Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1793-1829, transformed a portrait of a society lady by Gilbert Stuart into a rather Buxom Ms. Liberty. Some accounts identify the woman as Philadelphia socialite Ann Willing Bingham.
