Obverse : A image of the old Parliament in the centre, with the words `Universal Adult Franchise' in Sinhala appear at the apex of the coin and in Tamil and English on either side together with the period `1931-1981', at the bottom.
Reverse : Large numeral “5” appears with the value `FIVE RUPEES' superimposed on the figure in Sinhala, Tamil and English. `Sri Lanka' in Sinhala appear at the apex of the coin and in Tamil and English on either side. The year of issue `1981' is at the bottom.
A commemorative five rupee cupro-nickel coin was issued by Central Bank of Ceylon on 7th July 1981 to mark fifty years of Universal Adult Franchise (1931-1981).
