1850 Maximilian II Goldgulden
Bavaria - Wurzburg. Maximilian II Goldgulden ND (1850), KM#X-M21, Fr-293, D&S-251, MS62 NGC. Reported mintage of 215. Similar to most observed specimens, the fields on the present example showcase flashy prooflike surfaces and soft frost is apparent on the devices. A light reddish-orange tint in the centers pleasingly imparts originality. A scarce and unusual issue that was struck for the former bishopric of Wurzburg (with the shield of the city of the reverse) long after the Napoleonic Wars resulted in its absorption into the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1814.
