Bruttium, Kroton, c. 480 BC. AR Third Stater. Delphic tripod with three handles, and legs terminating in lion's feet; ethnic to left, stork standing to right of tripod. Reverse: Delphic tripod incuse. BMC 27; SNG ANS — (unlisted type); cf. SNG Cop 1757. Rare. A little porous. Unusually large and round flan. Choice Very Fine. A classic issue of the archaic coinage minted in Magna Graecia. An excellent example of a fractional silver coin, actually less often seen than the full stater, at a fraction of the price.
