1811,
MEXICO. War of Independence. Supreme National Congress of America. Cast Silver 2 Reales, ND (Style of 1811).
cf.KM-A213 (cast); Cal-Type-288#1048. EXTREMELY RARE. Cast silver. Although undated, clearly of the style of 1811 8 Reales (KM-207). Much like the 8 Reales, the first issue of this type would have been struck and used as "Madres" or "Mother coins" in creating the mold to produce the issue offered here. Identical in most feature to the larger denomination (8 Reales), however the date was omitted from 1 to 4 o'clock. It is unclear if this was done in error or intentional. Clearly this was not a space issue, as a large portion of the coin remains blank, where on the larger denomination the date appears. Highly important and seldom offered.
Pedigree: Purchased privately from Mike Dunigan.
